It's almost 2012. Life is pretty good. I just got back from the US a week ago. At the moment I'm doing my 6 week internship at the hospital. Neonatal care en prenatal care... So much fun! I just finished my first week and feel so energetic and happy. It feels like I finally found what I want to do. Not necessarily do deliveries and take care of the infants and the mothers, but help and counsel women throughout their pregnancy. 5 more weeks to go. I hope they will all be as pleasant as this week was!

New years resolutions... I was browsing through my blog list and came across taza's refinery29 feature. She was talking about her clothing style etc. and 5 little words popped out for me: fun, colorful, clean, feminine, and modest. Those made me happy. I find myself clean feminine and modest. I would like to add the color and fun to my life this coming year. So here here for fun and color! Happy 2012 everybody!

Photo booth in Paris. It was an old school photo booth that didn't have perfect timing... It just randomly flashed and made some noises. Hence the "I don't know what's going on face" in the first shot :-).

We spent the other half of our holiday in the Côte d'Azur. We visited little towns in the hills like Grimaud and Ramatuelle... Which were my favorites. Very low key and calm and just so gorgeous. A big difference compared to the busy Saint Tropez (which was also fun!).

Some randoms from Forcalquier. Spent some time in a summer house with a pool that had a beautiful view over the valley. Evenings were spent outside sipping rosé and listening to the crickets and the neighbour practicing the saxaphone.

Weekend trip to Lille a little while ago... Such a quaint little town!

We ate, drank and walked around. The museum we visited didn't have a very interesting art collection, but the building was gorgeous!

Breakfast: strawberry's, sheep yoghurt and mint.
Lunch: salad, goat cheese, bacon and apple slices.
Dinner: pasta, freshly picked tomatoes, bacon and mozzarella.

When I'n in my study mode eating is my big time break. An hour long I get to cook and eat. Happy moments! We've been growing some herbs on our patio... Some basil, mint, thyme, lavender, coriander, lemon balm (smells soooo good!) and we also have a little cherry tomato plant. Makes cooking that much more fun, the first thing I think is "which herbes should I use".

I didn't take a whole lot of pictures this year, but going through them made me a bit nostalgic. We're only talking about a year here... But it went by so fast! 2010 was a good year for me. It started off a bit bumpy, but by going to the US and figuring out what I want to study was a great start to a new chapter in my life. I'm loving midwifery, more than I had expected.

Another new year's resolution: study more, and be more organized.

Why I love snow:
- The city is oh so quiet (and abandoned in the evening)
- Biking from point A to point B becomes an adventure
- I get to wear scarves and mittens

- Time seems to stand still

- Mr. George gets to prance around in the snow like a little sheep

Some pictures from our trip to Switzerland. We went to Leysin for a week and enjoyed the fresh air, the sun and some nice walks (I only went on one in Vevey). We go to the same place every year. It's a lovely "tradition" that I think we'll keep for lot's of years to come.

It's been a while since I posted... Or wrote anything on the blog. Haven't been feeling like it for a while, but have been enjoying all your lovely blogs (even though I do not always comment).

I've been keeping busy with school. Attending classes, studying a bit here and there... Always stuff to do. I've recently decided to work out on a regular basis. I'm going to go swimming (as in swimming laps) once a week and I'm going to work out in the gym twice a week. It feels good to exercise. Makes me feel healthy and fit!

Tomorrow I'm starting a 3-day crash course in biochemistry. "Biochemistry"... What a fancy word. I have no idea what to expect of the teacher, the students, the subject itself or anything. I'm quite excited, but also kind of bummed because that means my holiday is over. No more going to bed at 2AM (sometimes 3AM) and sleeping until noon. No more doing nothing and not feeling guilty about it. Hmmm...

Back from the festival. It was awesome. I saw so many great bands. I really loved: Jonsi, Ellie Goulding (I'm really liking her! Check out this, this and this. Not a fan of her clips, but live she is absolutely magnificent!), Queens of the Stone Age, 2manydjs, The Van Jets and Snow Patrol. I'm still reliving all the concerts in my head... But now back to daily life! Have to work tomorrow. After 15 hours of sleep spread over 4 nights, I can really use my rest. So off to bed for me!

Some last pictures I wanted to share from our trip to Stockholm.

Those 2 old ladies on the boat trip to Ahlsvik were so cute. They sat there and talked and had their breakfast together.

In Ahlsvik (actually Svartsö) we rented some bikes and biked around. Not that we could bike a whole lot... The island was about 17km by 1km (and to think it's one of the largest islands of the archipelago!), but definitely worth it regardless.

I like Sweden... After that week in Stockholm I kind of felt lost and empty. Something was missing. Maybe the fresh air? The beautiful nature? The lovely people? All I know is that in now and 10 years I'll be living somewhere else (hopefully). Belgium just isn't the country for me.

Back from Stockholm. It is now 04.53 AM. I can't sleep... Which is quite funny because during the past 5/6 days in Stockholm we were in bed by 10.00 PM every night. We were exhausted after all the walking and sightseeing. And seriously... We walked A LOT! Which was so worth it though... In my opinion, the only way to really get to know a city is by walking and walking and walking. And so we did, every single day. I liked (loved!) Stockholm, but I'm not sure if I would return again in the summer (tourist overload).

Some things I loved: Hermans (lovely veg. restaurant with gorgeous view over Stockholm), Ahlsvik (beautiful island, 2 hours by boat from Stockholm), Fotografiska (photography museum, Annie Leibovitz exhibition), the men's "fashion" hairstyle (curly thing going on, kind of like THIS), the interesting city hall, my new lovely moheda sandals!

I was so so happy when this lovely book arrived in the mail. I'm a big time sartorialist fan... Not in a "I copy every outfit" way but more in a "I love looking at fashion/people/their outfits" way! There's not a whole lot of text in the book but I just loved this little part:

My new hairdo. It's not really that new anymore... But tons of people still haven't seen it yet! I used to have long(er) hair, so it's a big change. Most reactions so far are positive. My mother actually screamed when she saw it (in a good way of course!).
I like my short hair. Some would say less work, but for me it has been tons of work. The styling, which I never did with my long hair, takes at least 15 minutes! haha

And oh the weather... Beautiful grey skies!! Yesterday it was pretty hot (the weekend was very hot too), but now the skies are so grey and cloudy and rainy. I love the rain. I prefer cold rainy weather to warm sunny weather! Big time autumn/winter girl!

Because Mr. George is so adorable, with his cute puppy eyes... and because I have nothing better to post! I'm still alive... Just haven't felt like blogging or taking pictures. No inspiration whatsoever. I've been working a bit these past weeks in a fun gift shop, something to keep me busy since I'm not taking my exams this semester. It's OK for now... But I want to get busy! I can't wait until next school year! Midwifery, woohoo! I've been looking at the subjects I'll be taking and the work placements I'll be doing. It's all so exciting!

All you lovely Scandinavians out there... I need your help! We're planning on doing a 2-week road trip in July to Denmark and Sweden. I'm really looking forward to it and am browsing through rough guides and websites to get an idea of what we should do. But no better way to find out than through locals! So... Any cafes, restaurants, stores, towns, areas you would recommend? Mr. George is coming too so I think we'll be camping quite a bit. Any camping sites you would recommend?

Today... For the first time ever (maybe 2nd or 3d time, but it's definitely a rare thing)... I was craving for salad. I kind of got into it while I was in the US. Our favorite pizza place (Nello's pizza) has this terrific salad called "the old world classic". Tons of ingredients: feta cheese, black olives, red onions, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, garbanzo beans, mushrooms, cucumbers, and pepperoncinis. It is absolutely delicious and is served with a homemade dressing which is (not exaggerating) to die for! From that moment on I realized salads can be delicious (and they're also easy to make)! SO I made myself a salad today. Nothing compared to the old world classic, but definitely good enough to soothe my craving.

Do any of you have some nice salad recipes? And dressing recipes? I usually make a simple dressing with mustard, vinegar and olive oil... But would love to try something different!

I thought I would blog more in Belgium, but I actually haven't even touched my camera since I arrived back from the States! So to start off with "Belgium blogging", I must begin with Mr. George. Still as cute as can be... Playful, very well behaved and very sleepy in the mornings as you can see!

I've been doing a lot and nothing at the same time. I enrolled in a college program, midwifery. Something totally different compared to what I was doing this year. But I'm looking forward to it! I won't start 'til the end of september... So to pass the time I have been going for walks with Mr. George and have started to reaaally cook. I don't usually cook, but since I'm the only one in the house that doesn't really have anything to do like a job or school... It kind if makes sense. I just started doing it... And am actually really enjoying it. In the morning I pick out what I want to make, around noon I'll do some grocery shopping and in the afternoon I start cooking. It keeps me busy all day! (To be very honest, I've only done it twice... But I'm planning on doing it more frequently!)

A few days ago I made this lovely dish... Which was actually sooooo good!! I was raised in a vegetarian household... So never learned how to cook meat... But that chicken... Mmmmmm! I was very proud of myself! It turned out great! I never would have thought of seasoning chicken with ginger!

Tonight I'm going to make this lasagna. It sounds very cheesy, so I'm curious how it will turn out!

Last US pictures (2 to be exact)! Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1). We drove down from San Francisco to LA, which was absolutely gorgeous! The views from the cliffs and the homes (huuuuge mansions) are to die for!

I'm a bit sick. Had a fever all day yesterday and am still not feeling too hot today. But apart from feeling miserable, I'm actually enjoying the time I have now to catch up on tons of blogs!

I still haven't really "climated" yet. Food still doesn't agree with me, I still wake up regularly in the evenings and I think I'm getting a cold. Oh well... I'll give it another week.

This week is all about organizing and new beginnings. I'm quitting my current studies and am going to try something new. So now I need to figure out what I want to do next school year and what I want to do until then. Not easy... I have to make all these big decisions.

San Francisco. 2 days. Lot's of walking.

I had expected it to be different... A bit more metropolitan, maybe a bit smaller too. But I had such a nice time! We did a two hour bus tour, yes I know very touristy... But so worth it. You really get to see the city that way without having to go up and down all those hills...
(Soooooo many hills!!)

Road trip with my pops. First time ever we did something big like that, just the two of us. Which was actually very fun. Our route was: Phoenix - Yosemite - San Francisco - PCH (Highway 1) - Los Angeles. It ended up being a lot of driving, but it was so worth it.

Yosemite is a huge national park and is absolutely gorgeous. We had a nice dinner in a restaurant right by a waterfall, camped in the snow and went for a hike. Hiking... Not my thing whatsoever. I huffed and puffed, moaned and groaned... all the way up the mountain - but the view up there was amazing.

Today I have some more cleaning to do. Kind of tired, but with this music all will go smoothly.

Finally reunited with Mr. George (and all the other people here in Belgium). But importantly Mr. George. I missed him sooo much. He didn't (want to) recognize me in the beginning... He tends to do that when you've been gone for a while. Like he's mad at you or something. But all is well now.

I've got jet lag, so haven't been very productive... But I fixed my macbook (jeeeej!) and finally finished unpacking! Soooo many clothes... I cleaned out my closet and made some room for my lovely new items. I'm kind of a shoe-a-holic... I just realised I bought about 8 pairs of shoes while being in the US. HAHA!

One more post before I leave this American continent. I'll be leaving on monday... Time just flew by.

My purse, cell phone and keys. Even though I tend to forget my keys now and then and lock myself out...(!)

I love MAC makeup.

White orchids.

Flats. Heels are fun to play in, but way too painful.

To be completely honest... Not really.

I used to during my exams... But I found out that strong green tea does the trick too.

Yes, I love orange juice!

I don't really know anymore... I haven't swum in ages.

Sometimes...

Don't really have one.

I think I do. Not a good thing...

My macbook broke down on me yet AGAIN. Quite a disappointment... I will get it fixed when I'm back in Belgium, which is pretty soon.

I think I can say this is the last of it... No more blog-post-worthy pictures anymore of the road trip. Last ones were taken in Joshua Tree national park. We drove through the park for about 2 hours. It's an impressive park, but after a while, you've kind of seen it all... Rocks, Joshua trees and other cactus-ish stuff.

I'm going to start my weekend early. Have a lovely Easter weekend.

Santa Monica was very busy and full of tourists... But nice regardless. That guy in the last pictures did amazing "monkey things" on those "chainy things". He was very elegant in what he did.
(And very cute too!)

I so want a cruiser bike. Like one of these. We rented some bikes and cruised by the seaside. Venice (beach) - Santa Monica - Malibu. That was soooo nice. We started early in the morning when the beaches were still relatively empty, by the end of the day it was packed.

This is one of the coolest places I've ever been. On our road trip we passed by Palm Springs and went to the Ace Hotel. We had breakfast and dinner there. For breakfast I had ricotta pancakes with banana and a butter made with nuts. It was simply delicious. Afterwards we had fun with the photo booth there. Giggles and laughs included.

I just got back from a 4day roadtrip to LA. Sunny weather, cruisin' by the beach on vintage bikes, great food, lovely driftwood, glamorous Hollywood, etc. More pictures coming up.

Happy spring. Springtime is definitely here... Plants are coming alive and flowers are starting to bloom. I am sitting outside now, it is 10.06 AM and 70°F (about 20°C). Gorgeous weather. My morning ritual is tea/breakfast/laptop/reading.

Currently I am reading 2 books. Eat, pray, love and the secret garden. I've been in a reading mood here... I am in love with both books. I love the way eat, pray, love is written and I love how the secret garden is so cute and sweet and adventurous. I have a hard time putting these books down once I start reading.

I worked out with a trainer for the first time. Pure pain I tell you. I have been waddling around the house since friday.

I miss my Mr. George. He's such a lovely cuddly thing. I love taking care of him, even (very) early in the morning when he needs to be let out... Not always with as much joy then... But now I would do anything to take an early walk with him (in my pj's). And then make some tea and read a book in the couch with Mr. George lying by my feet.

This little guy is my brother. We had a mustache/silly glasses photo shoot yesterday. When I told him "let's make mustaches" he started drawing a mustache on him with a pink marker... That's not exactly what I had in mind... But oh well, it was funny.

Can't go to the Grand Canyon and not take pictures. I took about 50 pictures there... and they all look the same. The Grand Canyon is just a big hole, so you can't get a whole lot of interesting pictures of it. Even though I've seen the Grand Canyon before, it's still a wow affect! You walk past the trees and past some buildings and then there it is... "woooooow". It is very impressive.

This made my day. (I have her as screensaver now.)

I'm loving this song.

And I'll be watching this movie tonight.

Back from our road trip. Grand Canyon and snowboarding in Flagstaff.

The last time I went snowboarding was 3 years ago... So I was a bit worried that it wouldn't go too well, but it went fine (I totally rocked the slopes!). It's amazing how quick you pick it up. And wow, what an adrenaline kick you get out of it... I forgot how much I enjoy it. There was this gorgeous slope called "the bull" which was sooo nice, you could really get some speed on that one.

Something made and something new.

The scarf is actually my second knitting project ever. I'm quite happy with the way it turned out. It's nice and warm and very practical. AND it's black, so I can wear it with everything (and so I do). I can't wait to make more scarves like this one. I need some more colors.

New blog. New layout. New start.

I love road trips. The snacks, the music, the interesting conversations, the gorgeous views and the endless roads. Next road trip shall be to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is apparently gorgeous this time of year, with snow here and there.
